3. Find your own Kiyomizu-dera or Kyoto, and try capturing it
In Buddhism, it is believed that the “Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss” lies to the west, where Amitabha Buddha resides.
People would worship the view from the west gate, where the mountains glow red in the sunset, appearing as if the Pure Land truly exists.
The gate is considered the entrance to paradise, the boundary between this world and the afterlife.
At sunset, people reflect on their own mortality and join their hands in prayer, embodying the Japanese view of life and death.
consists of the inner sanctuary, innermost sanctuary, outer sanctuary, and the stage.
The inner sanctuary is usually used for prayers and Buddhist ceremonies and is not open to the public.
Inside a box called the “zushi” (a miniature shrine) resides the principal deity.
The doors are usually closed and are only opened once every 33 years.
🌟 Whether the Buddha is physically present inside the shrine is not what matters; what is important is whether we can sense and feel that presence ourselves.
Each of the 40 arms (excluding the two joined in prayer) has 25 functions, symbolizing 1,000 helping hands (25 × 40 = 1,000).
Kannon is a compassionate, “close-by” Buddha—not a distant figure, but one who always watches over us in different forms.
What does “Yorisou” mean?
It refers to moments when your heart resonates with another’s.
While raising your emotional sensitivity allows for such resonance, it’s equally important to care for your own heart to avoid emotional fatigue.
A recreation of the Pure Land of Kannon.
Seeing the world not as a binary (dualistic) system, but as a unified (non-dual) whole.
🌟 Even within the same world, just by slightly changing your perspective or way of thinking, the meaning of things can change drastically.
A 13-meter-high stage built for the Buddha.
In the Edo period, around 240 people are recorded to have jumped from it.
Jumping Ritual:
A wish-making act of giving yourself up to the Buddha.
would stay at the temple for 21 days, pray deeply, then, in the early morning when no one was around, face the main hall, join hands in prayer, and jump backward.
Kannon transforms into many forms; similarly, water, which also takes many shapes, is considered an embodiment of Kannon.
Therefore, the waters of Otowa Waterfall have long been revered as sacred.
The name “Kiyomizu-dera” originates from the belief that bathing in or drinking this sacred water brings purification.
🌟 “By simply changing the way we look at things or the way we think, the meaning can change greatly. What’s truly important is the state of mind we hold within ourselves.” 🌟
comment from week 7:
It’s been almost a year since I started going to the gym, and now I’ve been working out consistently for six straight months.
Finally, I’m beginning to feel the changes in my body.
It’s been tough because you can’t see your body’s progress day by day — it takes time before the results start to show.
There were so many times when I didn’t feel like going to the gym, but I kept pushing myself, and now I can feel the growth.
I’ve realized that one of the most important keys to success is consistency.
It’s so easy to talk about your dreams to others, but without action, they’re just dreams — they’ll never come true.
You have to keep moving forward and keep grinding, no matter what it takes, for the sake of your dream.
I haven’t reached my goal yet, so I have to keep grinding too!!
